Playground in a Box

Bismarck Parks and Recreation District has just received a free playground. Because Bismarck was designated a Playful City last fall, Bismarck Parks and Recreation (BPRD) now has an Imagination Playground in a Box.  Imagination Playground is designed to encourage unstructured “free play.” With a focus on loose parts, the Imagination Playground let’s children design their own play. Giant foam blocks, mats, wagons, fabric and crates give children the chance to play, dream, build and explore.

The Imagination Playground in a Box (IPB) is a portable playground and can be used both indoors and outdoors.  BPRD plans to utilize the IPB at the World War Memorial Building in the winter months to give children and parents opportunities for indoor play experiences. During the fall and spring, the IPB will be at Magical Moments Playground at Wachter Park, a fully accessible playground with a lot of sand and water, which can be used with the IPB.  During the summer months, the IPB will be traveling to different elementary schools in Bismarck for the Activity Centers program.

BPRD will be introducing the IPB to the public for the first time at the grand opening of the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center on May 6-9.  The IPB will be in the indoor playground area where the BSCAWC play area will soon be installed.  Check the BPRD website for the schedule and details of all of the events at the grand opening.
