Bio Mass Heating System

The BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center has a Bio Mass Heating System, which burns wood waste from the Bismarck landfill.  Burning wood waste conserves landfill space, provides an economical heating source and saves approximately $100,000 per year in heating costs.  The system heats the facility, water for pools and the domestic water for showers.  Approximately 1,000 tons of wood waste is burned annually. The North Dakota Forest Service uses the ash to amend soils.
