We Blitzed Our Community
What a buzz! Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) joined 57 other park agencies across the country and hosted a Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz September 20-30. What’s that? BPRD asked folks to safely explore parks and open spaces to take photos of plants, insects and animals to see what’s in Bismarck. These photos were uploaded onto a mobile app called INaturalist to provide more information about pollinators and other wildlife in the community.
Each photo taken and uploaded was called an “observation.” Well, folks in Bismarck observed 302 times and discovered 147 species of wild things in the community in that 10-day period. The Parks for Pollinators campaign was sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association and the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation. BPRD won $600 prize to support pollinator habitats or programs gardens in our system.
Thanks to all who participated in the Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz. Would you like to see what people saw in Bismarck? Here you go: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/parks-for-pollinators-2020-bismarck-parks-and-recreation-district?tab=observations
