MCDOWELL DAM MAINTENANCE JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Operations/Maintenance (Part-Time I, II, III or IV)
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the McDowell Dam Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Employee performs a variety of maintenance and operational tasks supporting McDowell Dam Recreation Area.  Employee is responsible for safe, efficient operation of equipment and tools while following established work and safety procedures of the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD).

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. Essential Functions

  • Assist with the maintenance of buildings and grounds at McDowell Dam, including cleaning restrooms and picnic shelters.
  • Grounds maintenance duties include mowing the grounds with a push mower or riding mower, trimming, litter pickup, painting, pesticide application and other duties as assigned.
  • Alert supervisor about maintenance issues, safety concerns and when visitors are not in compliance with park rules.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment and handling of pesticides.
  • Employee may be responsible for performing skilled assignments; all seasonal staff are expected to take direction from designated supervisors.
  • Employee is responsible for informing a supervisor of job related problems, damaged equipment, building damage, potential safety concerns, and to inform supervisor of current work assignment progress.
  • Employee may be called upon to clean restrooms, make landfill runs and to perform other general maintenance work assignments.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • The ability to work independently, manage time well, and work in a variety of weather conditions outdoors is desired.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal neatness, attire, and communicating repair needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pass a background check prior to being hired and before starting work.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Be reliable, responsible and conscientious.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds alone or heavier amounts with the assistance of other employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and weekends when required.
  • Work is primarily outdoors and requires working under extreme conditions.
  • Employee is expected to wear clean full-length pants that are not tattered or torn and wear job appropriate footwear. Tennis shoes are not acceptable. BPRD provides T-shirts, caps and any safety gear that is required to complete assigned tasks.
