OUTDOOR POOL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Part-Time Hourly III
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the facility Specialists and Facilities Manager.

JOB SUMMARY

The outdoor pool manager is responsible for management and supervision of an outdoor pool facility including public safety and recreational opportunities for individuals utilizing the facility and programs within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD).

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. They are not to be considered an exhaustive or all-inclusive listing of the position’s duties and tasks, as they may change or be adjusted, as situations require.

Essential Functions

  • Read water chemistry levels throughout the day and maintain records of pool chemistry, incident reports, daily user numbers/reports and in-service/staff training
  • Daily maintenance of the pool area and locker rooms including cleaning and other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for communicating water quality and safety issues to supervisor.
  • Ensure patrons are being supervised at all times.
  • Organize staff in-service trainings
  • Coordinate swimming lesson registration and monitor each session of lessons.
  • Facilitate reservations including pool rentals and birthday parties.
  • Manage and monitor ActiveNet operations of front desk and concessions. Close cash drawers and make deposit each day.
  • Create staff schedules for pool employees, including time approval and timesheet management.
  • Enforce rules and regulations set by the BPRD with firmness and tact.
  • Participate in the planning and attend all required staff meetings, in-service training and emergency procedure sessions, and complete all training session requirements.
  • Complete an evaluation of all staff at the end of their employment.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform supervisor prior to running out of supplies.
  • Assist Facility Specialist with concessions operations (where applicable).
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicating repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate with two years of experience in aquatics.
  • Flexible schedule as the position will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • A current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is required.
  • A current WSI certificate is preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of water safety principals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of water chemistry and the physical ability to operate the pool vacuum, floor scrubber and other pool maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds alone or heavier with other employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is primarily outdoors and subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to stand for 2-4 hours at a time.
  • Public contact is frequent.
