Dr. Jeff Fastnacht, Bismarck Public Schools superintendent, presented information on the $127 million bond referendum on the June 9 ballot.
Bismarck Parks and Recreation District Recreation Manager RaNae Jochim introduced the four BPS students that developed the two logos for the park district’s 100th anniversary in 2027: Elias Abryzom, Calee Olson, and Maya Dewald from Century High School and Chloe Berger from Legacy High School.
Carl Jackson shared an update on Keep Bismarck Beautiful organized by Bismarck Rotary Club as a BPRD featured partner. He invited the community to participate in the city’s cleanup day on May 2 from 9:00am to 12:00pm starting at Peace Park. Advance registration is encouraged.
The Board also heard from Eric Bartsch about another featured partner, Bismarck Youth Baseball.
The Board approved the bid for replacement of the Schaumberg Arena refrigeration system at Capital Ice Complex by CIMCO Refrigeration for $2,449,000.
The Board approved the concession agreement for VFW Sports Center and Tom O’Leary Golf Course with BSG Food Service for September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2030, with renewal options.
BPRD is working with the City of Bismarck on a community recreation facility feasibility study. The selection committee for the study consultant will include a commissioner and two staff from each organization. The Board appointed Commissioner Redmann to the selection committee.
The Board approved the 2027-2029 Strategic Plan.
The Board approved the initial resolution for general obligation park facilities bonds for up to $6 million for parking lot improvements. The Board also approved the project consultant agreement with KLJ Engineering LLC and authorized the call for bids for the project.
The Board authorized staff to dispose of surplus equipment.
The Board voted to move forward with reference checks on the two executive director finalists: Joshua Clevenger and David Leker. A special Board meeting will be held on April 23, 2026, at the BPRD administrative office.
A tour of BPRD parks and facilities will be conducted April 29, 2026, starting at 4:00pm from the BPRD administrative office.
