Park District Improvements

Bismarck Parks and Recreation District is committed to reinvesting in existing parks, trails, and facilities to maximize community access and usability. We also develop new parks, trails, and facilities to accommodate a growing, changing, and diverse community.

Temporary Closures

  • None at this time.

Long-Term Closures

  • River Road Trail – A section of River Road Trail in Bismarck was closed March 3, 2025, for the duration of the BNSF railroad bridge project. See updates from BNSF Railway for details.
  • Channel Drive Trail – This trail is closed from Rosser Avenue to Divide Avenue for a City of Bismarck construction project.

Projects in Progress

  • September 2025: Tom O’Leary Golf Course – Cart Path Improvements: Work began the week of September 25 on cart paths for holes 10, 11, 12, 13, and 16. The project will be completed in spring 2026.
  • October 2025: BPRD is working with volunteers to add singletrack mountain biking trails to Hay Creek Park. 

Projects Recently Completed

  • July 2025: The expanded Sheila Schafer Junior Links opened at Pebble Creek Golf Course and Fore Seasons Center.
  • September 2025: The tennis courts at Lions Park were resurfaced and striped to add eight pickleball courts with portable nets.
  • October 2025: A second playground was added near Shelter 3 at McDowell Dam Recreation Area.
  • October 2025: The playground next to Shelter 2 at General Sibley Park was replaced.
  • October 2025: The trail extension along South Washington Street from Meridian Drive to General Sibley Park was completed.
  • November 2025: The videoboard at the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center was replaced.
