Activity Centers Grades 1-6 – Summer

Activity Centers provide summer recreational programming for children at select elementary schools in a day-camp style setting. Daily games, crafts, projects, outdoor fun, and movement help participants increase social skills and enjoy active play in a safe and caring supervised environment.

Dates and Times

2026 registration opens April 1 at 8:00am. 

  • June 1-July 31, 2026
  • Monday-Friday from 7:45am-5:30pm
  • No program July 2-3, early closure at 12:00pm July 31

Need to Know

Fees

  • $625 per child if received by Thursday, April 23
  • $635 per child if received Friday, April 24, or later
  • The entire fee may be paid during registration or split into two payments (final payment is due May 13).

Registration Details

  • Children must have completed kindergarten during the 2025-2026 school year or be age 6 before June 1, 2026. If your child is in kindergarten but won’t be 6 until June 1, 2026, or later, you must register at the BPRD office, 400 E. Front Ave.
  • Children may be enrolled at any site; they do not have to attend school at that location.
  • Registration is first-come, first-served. Activity Centers have limited enrollment.
  • CRITICAL: Please ensure your email address and contact information are correct when registering your child both online and on the registration packet. This information is needed to contact you in case of an emergency. The registration packet must be completed and turned in within 48 hours of your registration

Registration Process

  1. Register your child(ren) for the selected Activity Center site online or in person at the BPRD office.
  2. Complete the online registration packet or pick up a paper registration packet from the BPRD office. Submit the completed packet within 48 hours of registering. Your child(ren)’s registration is complete when the packet is received.

Junior Leaders

Junior Leaders will learn the skills necessary to perhaps become an Activity Center Leader one day. They will assist the Leaders in organizing the games and daily activities, assisting the Activity Center participants, and helping prepare for the activities each day. Junior Leaders learn leadership and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, recreational environment.

Need to Know

  • Must be going into grade 7 or older
  • Maximum of 4 Junior Leaders per site
  • Fee: $100 per Junior Leader (due if accepted)

2026 Activity Center Overview

General Activity Center Program Information

  • Activities include fun time indoors, outside, playing games, and doing crafts.
  • Dates are June 1-July 31, and we are closed July 2-3. The last day, July 31, is a half-day only and Centers close at 12:00pm.
  • Hours are 7:45am-5:30pm. There is no supervision before 7:45am or after 5:30pm. Please pick up your child promptly, or they could be dismissed from the program.
  • Bookmobile books are to be returned to the bookmobile or Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. They are not the responsibility of the Activity Centers; please do NOT leave them at Activity Centers.
  • There are no refunds after the program has started.

Information for the Parent for the Safety of Your Child(ren)

  • You must sign your child in/out each day. Do not drop your child off without signing them in. 
  • If your child is in CampEd, please make sure they report directly to Activity Centers at 1:05pm. They should not be roaming the halls or on the playground.  Starting in June 29, you must sign your child in every morning.
  • If your child(ren) will be absent, please let the staff at your child’s Center know before 8:00am, call the Park District office at 701-222-6771, or email blast@bisparks.org before 8:00am.  
  • The leaders are not allowed to give medication of any type to the children.

Items Your Child(ren) Needs Each Day

  • A sack lunch, as well as a morning and afternoon snack.
  • No nuts or peanut butter, please, due to allergies.
  • A water bottle. Please label the bottle with your child’s name.
  • Weather appropriate clothing. Tennis shoes are needed for playing games. No flip-flops or sandals.

Additional Safety Information

  • Fighting or hitting of any kind results in a three-day suspension from the program. Refer to the Discipline Procedure handout for complete disciplinary actions.
  • No cellphones, smart watches, or handheld electronic consoles. Please keep these items at home as we are not responsible for these items if lost, broken, or stolen. They are not allowed at Activity Centers. If seen, they will be put in the cabinet and returned to the parent/guardian at the end of the day. Please do not contact your child on their device and tell them they can walk home.
  • No weapons (guns, knives, martial arts weapons, etc.). We will follow BPS guidelines, and there will be a five-day suspension if caught having a weapon at Activity Center.

Contact Us

Most sites do not have a direct phone line for you to contact your child. If your site does have a direct number, that will be shared with you the first week. If you need to message the leaders about your child, you can call the Park District office (701-222-6771) or the parent phone (701-220-3587) during Activity Center hours.
