Flurry Fest 2024

Did you know that the outdoors can be some of the best medicine? Research shows that spending time outside cuts anxiety and stress and providing places and opportunities to get active can help people stay healthy. That’s why Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) celebrates winter the entire month of February with Flurry Fest, a variety of free and low-cost activities for everyone.

Some outdoor highlights this year include S’mores Walk, Skate with the Bobcats and Treasure Hunt.

Feb. 1-29 • FREE Puck & Stick Time

  • Tues., Wed. & Thurs. • Noon-1pm

  • Puck & Stick Time is for individuals looking for a little extra skate time on the ice.

Feb. 2 • Luminary Ski Night (Vinterfest) Cancelled due to weather.

  • 5-7pm
  • General Sibley Park & Campground, 5001 S. Washington St.
  • Pack your cross-country skis and headlamp for a luminary lit .75-mile ski trail beneath the cottonwood forest at General Sibley Park as part of this rescheduled Vinterfest event. A campfire and snacks will be available along the trail.
  • Parking available near campground office.
  • Signage near office marks beginning of looped ski trail.
  • Skiing only; no walking allowed on ski trails.
  • Participants must bring their own skis.
  • Ski and pole rentals available at Riverwood Golf Course until 7pm; no overnight rentals.
  • FREE; no registration required.
  • Hosted in partnership with the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation.

  • 5:30-6:45pm – Ages 5-11

  • Glow with us on the court! Join us for a challenging and fun atmosphere as we do tennis drills in the dark.

  • The Open Gym Program is designed for both youth and adults to use a neighborhood gymnasium in a supervised, free play situation.

  • New Generations Park – Farwest Rotary Community Center, 1021 Mustang Dr.
  • All ages are welcome for this exciting afternoon of art. Projects will be simple and fun. Registration is not required.

  • Enjoy public skating indoors. Skate rentals: $3 (sizes 9 junior to 15 adult).

Feb. 11 • FREE Kicksled Kickoff (Vinterfest) Cancelled due to weather.

  • Tatley-Eagles Park, 602 Airport Rd.
  • Join Bismarck Parks & Recreation District and the Sons of Norway Sverdrup Lodge for an introduction to kicksledding, in Tatley-Eagles Park. Fun for all ages, attendees can expect to watch, learn, and practice kicksledding—a foot-powered Scandinavian sled used for winter transportation.
  • Seven kicksleds of various sizes will be available; attendees will have the opportunity to take turns trying them out on a groomed route in Tatley-Eagles Park during this rescheduled Vinterfest event.
  • Following the event, the Sons of Norway will be donating the kicksleds to Bismarck Parks & Recreation District for public enjoyment.
  • This is made possible through a grant from The American-Scandinavian Foundation.

  • 6-8pm
  • Capital Ice Complex, 1504 Wichita Dr.
  • Super Bowl Theme: wear your favorite team’s jersey colors. Regular skating fees apply: $2 per individual and $5 per family. Skate rentals: $3.

Feb.-March 13 • FREE Preschool Skate Date

  • Mon., Tues. & Wed. • 11:30am–12:30pm
  • Capital Ice Complex, 1504 Wichita Dr.
  • This program is designed for parents and their preschool child(ren) to spend ice time together. Skate rentals: $3.

  • Spend the afternoon outdoor skating with the Bobcats. Enjoy treats in the warming house.

Feb. 19-23 • FREE BPRD Treasure Hunt

  • Sharpen your treasure-seeking skills. You get one Treasure Hunt clue a day for five days to lead you to a treasure of park district prizes.
  • Clues will be posted daily on the homepage of the BPRD website, on our Facebook page or call the Treasure Hunt Hotline at 222-6479.

Feb.-May 20 • Adaptive Bowling

  • Mon. • 4-6pm
  • Midway Lanes, 3327 Memorial Highway, Mandan
  • This bowling program is offered to individuals of all ages and abilities. $3.50/game, price includes shoe rental. Registration is not required.

  • It’s an ice rink AND a movie theater. Watch The Mighty Ducks while you skate.
  • Regular skating fees apply: $2 per individual and $5 per family or sit in the bleachers and enjoy the movie for FREE.
