ATHLETIC FIELD MAINTENANCE JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Part-Time Hourly I, II, III or IV
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the Sport Complexes Facility Specialist and Sport Complexes Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Employee performs a variety of maintenance and operational tasks supporting the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District’s (BPRD) athletic fields.  Employee is responsible for safe, efficient operation of equipment and tools while following established work and safety procedures.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. Essential Functions

  • Responsibilities include operation of trucks, tractors, athletic groomers, mowers, hand tools and other equipment to maintain softball, baseball and soccer fields.
  • Responsible for opening and closing facilities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to users and visitors.
  • Manage the assigned area prior, during, and after sporting events by executing all tasks necessary such as field lining, equipment set up, and cleaning grounds, stands and bathrooms.
  • Mow grass, rake leaves, and pick up branches.
  • Turf management such as field mowing, aerating, fertilizing, top dressing, edging, and weed spraying.
  • Maintain athletic activity areas through general field maintenance, including pre-game field preparations and post-game preparations, including infield dragging, base placement, chalking/painting of lines, home plate, and mound repairs.
  • Maintain park fences, dugouts, bleachers, drinking fountains, sidewalks, restrooms, and general repairs.
  • Assure the park and fields are kept neat and orderly by picking up garbage and replacing bags in the receptacles.
  • Perform daily maintenance of machines, including washing and greasing of mowers, trailers, and trucks.
  • Perform building maintenance work, painting, and repair of permanent structures
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment.
  • Employee may be responsible for performing skilled assignments; all seasonal staff are expected to take direction from designated supervisors.
  • Employee is responsible for informing a supervisor of job related problems, damaged equipment, building damage, potential safety concerns, when users/visitors are not in compliance with BPRD policies and procedures, and inform supervisor of current work assignment progress.
  • Employee will assist individuals and groups as needed within the policies and procedures of the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal neatness, attire, and communicating repair needs.
  • May be asked to perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Pass a background check prior to being hired and before starting work.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds alone or heavier amounts with the assistance of other employees

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is primarily outdoors and requires working under extreme conditions.
  • Employee is expected to wear clean full-length pants that are not tattered or torn and wear job appropriate footwear. Tennis shoes are not acceptable. BPRD provides T-shirts, caps and any safety gear that is required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; evening and weekend hours will be required based on scheduled events.
