SUMMER BASKETBALL COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Part-Time Hourly
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the assigned Facility Specialist and Recreation Manager.

JOB SUMMARY

This position will supervise and coordinate the summer basketball program by using the basic philosophy, policies, and procedures adopted by the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. They are not to be considered an exhaustive or all-inclusive listing of the position’s duties and tasks, as they may change or be adjusted, as situations require.

Essential Functions

  • Attend all youth basketball pre-season meetings and workshops. Complete all training session requirements.
  • Follow assigned schedule. Be at the World War Memorial Building at 5:30pm.
  • Communicate nightly/weekly with the Facility Specialist.
  • Communicate with the parents of the players as needed.
  • Be visible and available to parents, participants, and coaches. Must be able to answer questions and provide first aid and administrative assistance.
  • Supervise and direct 4-6 coaches.
  • Control inventory, including the replacement and documentation of damaged equipment and supplies.
  • Discuss any problem areas or concerns with coaches and inform the Facility Specialist.
  • Coordinator shall abide by all rules set up by the District for game and facility operation.
  • Set up equipment prior to each session. Return all equipment to the proper storage area at the end of each session.
  • Prepare and implement practice outlines and scrimmages.
  • Coordinator must be able to referee games as well as coach.
  • Complete evaluation forms of coaches and review with each coach prior to the end of the program. The coach and coordinator must sign evaluations.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform supervisor prior to running out of supplies.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicating repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals, rules, and skills of basketball.
  • Prior coaching experience with elementary, junior high or senior high athletes is preferred.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills and ability to communicate effectively with players, coaches and parents.
  • Position will require extensive contact with youth as well as adults.
  • Must be available Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Coordinator must stay at the facility with the kids until they are all picked up.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is indoors at the World War Memorial Building.
  • Must be able to stand for 3-5 hours at a time.
  • Public contact is frequent.
