Facility Specialist and Recreation Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Supervise and coordinate soccer program at the assigned complex by using the basic philosophy, policies, and procedures adopted by the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD).

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. They are not to be considered an exhaustive or all-inclusive listing of the position’s duties and tasks, as they may change or be adjusted, as situations require.

Essential Functions

  • Attend and lead training/orientation sessions prior to the start of the season including coach’s meeting and clinic and any additional meetings as needed.
  • Arrive at the complex 45 minutes prior to the start time, and inspect the playing fields and equipment to identify and address any problems or potential hazards.
  • Understand and implement the Coaches Handbook/Training Manual.
  • Be visible and available to parents, participants, and coaches. Must be able to answer questions and provide first aid and administrative assistance.
  • Move from field to field, observing, assisting and evaluating the coaching staff. Approach and correct problems in a positive manner with staff and parents.
  • Prepare equipment; sort team shirts; and distribute and collect equipment and supplies.
  • Control inventory, including the replacement and documentation of damaged equipment and supplies. Inform Facility Specialist of concerns and damages.
  • Discuss any problem areas or concerns with coaches and inform the Facility Specialist.
  • Communicate with the Facility Specialist on a weekly basis with progress reports.
  • Lock all supplies and equipment in the soccer shack at the end of each session. All keys issued must be turned in to the Facility Specialist at the end of the season.
  • Complete evaluation forms and review with each coach prior to the end of the program. The coach and coordinator must sign evaluations.
  • Inventory equipment and t-shirts at the end of the season and return to the World War Memorial Building.
  • Provide the Facility Specialist copies of all rosters and schedules.
  • Create, with coaches, daily/weekly practice plans and ensure they are implemented
  • Participate in the selection of all teams to see that it is done fairly.
  • Supervise and direct 10-20 coaches.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform Facility Specialist prior to running out of supplies.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the Facility Specialist.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicating repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the game of soccer
  • Prior coaching experience with elementary, junior high or senior high athletes is preferred.
  • Must have good written and verbal skills and be able to communicate effectively with players, coaches and parents.
  • Must be available from mid-May to Mid-August. Hours will vary.
  • This position will require extensive contact with youth and minors as well as adults.
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds or heaver lifting with other employees. Position will require lifting/moving goals from field to field.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is located outdoors at Cottonwood or Horizon soccer complexes.
  • Must be able to stand 3-4 hours at one time.
  • Contact with the public is extensive.
