TRIPLE STAR DAY CAMP JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB INFORMATION

  • Classification: Part-Time Hourly
  • Pay Range: Pay is determined on an annual basis by the Board of Park Commissioners
  • Supervisor: Works under the general and detailed supervision of the Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist in charge of the program.

JOB SUMMARY

A Triple Star Day Camp Leader provides daily supervision and develops a schedule of activities for participants age 10 and up with disabilities who are enrolled in the Triple Star Day Camp. Activities should include games, arts and crafts, music, fine art experiences, physical activities, and field trips.  This position will be assigned to Lions Park Community Center.  The philosophy and rules of the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) program must be followed at all times.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by the individual within this classification. Essential Functions

  • Attend all meetings and workshops to prepare for the Triple Star Day Camp program.
  • Create a camp theme for the summer and develop monthly calendars to include all activities and field trips. This should be completed prior to the first day of camp.
  • Make a supply list prior to the first day of camp and move all previous camp materials from the World War Memorial Building to the building. Pick up additional supplies at the World War Memorial Building.
  • Contact Hillside pool to determine a swimming schedule and maintain good communication with pool staff.
  • Be on site at least 15-30 minutes before the beginning of camp each day. Do not leave the building at the end of the day until all the campers have been picked up.
  • Provide all campers and/or their parents/guardian with an introduction letter, camp calendar and weekly notes about upcoming activities.
  • Implement all programming and supervise program participants, assisting as needed.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Recreation Specialist or Recreation Manager in charge of the program.
  • At the end of the Triple Star Day Camp program, clean building and return all supplies/materials to the World War Memorial Building.
  • Follow all BPRD safety policies and procedures outlined in the Risk Management Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary payroll forms and utilize the electronic time and attendance timekeeping system.
  • Understand and follow the standard operating procedures outlined in the employee manual.
  • Understand and follow the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Handbook items related to this position.
  • Represent BPRD in a professional and positive manner. BPRD issues clothing and equipment to employees and the issued items are to be used in an appropriate manner, not inconsistent with the image BPRD wishes to convey to the public.

Other Duties and Tasks

  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with facility staff, groups, associations, agencies and individuals.
  • Inform supervisor prior to running out of supplies.
  • Arrive at scheduled time and be ready to work. Absences must have prior approval by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for personal neatness and attire; communicate repair needs and job site neatness.
  • Perform a variety of tasks that range from skilled to unskilled work.
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate and work with participants with disabilities and their families.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals, rules and skills of a variety of activities.
  • Position will require extensive contact with youth as well as adults.
  • Must be available 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for nine weeks over the summer.
  • Maintain a fitness level acceptable to perform the skills required of the position.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is both indoor at the Lions Park Community Center and outdoor at Lions Park and Hillside pool.
  • Must be able to assist with changing clothes, eating and toileting.
  • Public contact is frequent.
