  • All schedules are subject to change. Check the calendar before going to skating.
  • Bismarck Parks and Recreation District public skating activities are yellow on the calendars. See program descriptions below.

Free outdoor rinks are open seasonally as weather permits.

Indoor Skating Programs

Public Indoor Ice Skating

There will be skate monitors on duty during Sunday public skating. We cannot be responsible for accidents, so please be careful.

Dates, Times, and Locations

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00-1:00pm in H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena, VFW Sports Center
  • Saturdays from 3:00-5:00pm in Schaumberg Arena, Capital Ice Complex
  • Sundays from 3:00-5:00 pm in First International Bank & Trust Arena, VFW
  • Sundays from 6:00-8:00pm in Wachter Arena, CIC
  • Check the calendars above before going to skating.

Skating Fee and Rentals

  • Skating Fee
    • Saturdays-Sundays: $5 per person or $10 per family
    • Tuesdays-Thursdays: FREE
  • Skate Rental: $5 each (sizes 9 junior to 15 adult, skates should be at least one size smaller than shoe size)

Rules

  • Skate with the flow.
  • No pucks or sticks.
  • No racing or dodging other skaters.
  • No food on the ice.
  • No spins – both feet must be on the ice.
  • Be courteous to other skaters.
  • Always use caution – be aware of other skaters.

Preschool Skate Date

This program is designed for parents and their preschool child(ren) to spend time on the ice together. It is not an instructional program. Just skate together, get comfortable on the ice, and have fun.

  • For ages 5 and under with parents/guardians
  • Preschool skaters must wear helmets and elbow pads.

Puck & Stick Time

Open stick time is for people looking for a little extra skate time on the ice.

  • Helmets with face masks and skates are required.
  • Pick-up games are not permitted.

Youth Hockey

Drop-in youth hockey games are for squirts to high school players.

Dates, Time, and Location

Need to Know

  • For ages 9-18
  • Fee: $5 per player

Drop-In Hockey Rules

  • First-come, first-served basis. Limited to 24 skaters and two goalies.
  • All players are required to wear a helmet with a full facemask, hockey gloves, and hockey skates. All other hockey equipment is recommended.
  • Body checking and slap shots are prohibited.
  • Wrestling, fighting, or horseplay is not permitted.
  • Private coaches and instructors are not allowed, along with any coaching or instruction.
  • No alcohol or tobacco.
  • Failure to comply with these rules may result in removal from the session.
  • Arena staff have final say on all issues.

Public Indoor Roller Skating

Roller skates and roller blades are welcome during the summer season.
