Meeting Recap for April 15, 2021

The Board heard an annual update from Deputy Chief Randy Ziegler, Bismarck Police Department. He provided information on current community challenges and discussed the important partnership between the department and Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD), noting the strong working relationship between the two entities.

Presentations were made on the BNSF Bismarck Bridge Project. Mike Herzog, BNSF Railway Director of Bridge Maintenance, spoke about BNSF needs for a new bridge. Margie Zalk Enerson, representing Friends of the Rail Bridge, asked the BPRD to be a community partner for trail system planning. The Board tabled discussion about the bridge for up to six months.

The Board reviewed and accepted the low bid from Northwest Contracting for Silver Ranch Neighborhood Park in northeast Bismarck as presented by Brad Krogstad, KLJ.

Jeff Ubl, Ubl Design Group, provided an update on construction of the maintenance facility, which is expected to be completed in June.

The Board authorized staff to apply for Garrison Diversion Recreation and America the Beautiful grants, to accept an agreement to extend Pebble Creek Golf Cart paths, and to approve user agreements for ice and indoor pool users.

The Board entered Executive Session to discuss potential acquisition of the leased portion of Lion’s Park.
