Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Oct. 19, 2023

Jamey Mills shared information about Fastrax BMX as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. Installation of a new Prostart Gate, with support from a BPRD Matching Grant, has been a great addition for 2023, allowing more efficient races along with coaching and mentoring on the track. The organization has between 65-70 riders traveling to races around the region. In July 2024, Fastrax BMX will host a regional qualifying event at the track.

RaNae Jochim, BPRD recreation manager, reported on BPRD’s third reaccreditation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), highlighting BPRD’s commitment to best practices and the highest level of service to our community. See the news release outlining this accomplishment.

The Board authorized staff to call for bids for 2024 fertilizer, the Meridian Drive to General Sibley Park Trail Project and the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark Project.

Jeff Ubl, Ubl Design Group, updated the Board on the VFW Sports Center Expansion Project. The H.A. Thompson and Sons Arena is 99 percent complete with ice in use. Locker Rooms 9-11 will be complete by Oct. 30. First International Bank & Trust Arena is now scheduled to be finished Feb. 29, 2024.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
