Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Oct. 20, 2022


Kurt Weinberg and Miranda Kaelberer shared information about the Bismarck Mandan Lacrosse Association as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. Lacrosse season runs from March to June, and 142 kids participated this year. The association offers recreation and travel options. They use fields at Cottonwood Park, and their host weekend featured 30 teams with more than 400 kids playing lacrosse in Bismarck. They thanked BPRD for its support of their program and shared their efforts to continue to the grow the sport in the community.

Step Into the Batter’s Box Campaign Committee Co-Chair Mike Wolf updated the Board on efforts to raise funds for the Walt Stack Umpires’ Headquarters at the Cottonwood Park Softball Complex. He shared that the committee had surpassed its fundraising goal of $200,000 by securing more than $203,000. He asked the Board for authorization to proceed with the project. The Board authorized staff to select a consultant and proceed with bids.

The Board approved the MOU with Bismarck Hockey Boosters for their $1,000,000 donation to the VFW Sports Center Expansion Project.

The Board approved the bid for the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark videoboard/scoreboard replacement project to Daktronics Inc. for $683,944.26.

The Board authorized staff to request qualifications for engineering, architect and planning services for 2023 and 2024.

The Board authorized staff to call for 2023 fertilizer bids; approved a companion agreement with N.D. Department of Transportation for the Ash Coulee and Tyler Parkway Shared Use Path; and authorized consultant selection and calls for bids for Hay Creek Park, Sam McQuade Sr. Softball Complex playground replacement, Joann Hetzel Memorial 4-H Building roof repair, and Sertoma Park water line.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
