Board of Park Commissioners Brief for September 11, 2025
Lynn Beiswanger shared information about the Bismarck Marathon as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District featured partner. He shared the organization’s focus on community wellness and highlighted the growth of the Marathon through the years. Beiswanger expressed appreciation for BPRD’s partnership and investment in Bismarck’s trail system. In 2024, Marathon participation included 1,648 adults, 218 youth, and 77 dogs, supported by more than 500 volunteers. Registration is still open for the 2026 Marathon on Sept. 20. Beiswanger highlighted the Bismarck Marathon’s support for local charities with event proceeds, including annual support for the Bismarck Recreation Council Endowment Fund.
Kathy Feist, BPRD finance director, reviewed the 2026 Operating Budget. The Board of held its public hearing on the budget with no comments offered. The Board adjusted the merit increase for full-time employees from 3.0 percent to 3.5 percent for 2026. The Board approved the second reading of the budget resolution and mill levy and adopted the 2026 Operating Budget.
The Board rejected the bid for restroom improvements at Sertoma Park due to the cost and authorized staff to work with the consultant to rebid the project.
The Board approved the neighborhood park development agreement for the William Blackstone Park in northwest Bismarck.
The Board authorized the addition of Bolton & Menk to its list of approved consultants.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, October 16, at 5:15pm in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
