Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for June 15, 2023
The Board approved the 2022 audit as presented by Mindy Piatz of Brady, Martz and Associates.
Spencer Aune, recreation specialist with Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD), provided highlights of the upcoming July Celebration. There are 25 free events this year, along with many low-cost activities for the community to enjoy. This year’s National Park and Recreation Month theme is “Where Community Grows.” Aune encouraged residents to share their experiences at parks, trails, facilities, programs and events through submissions to the annual Photo Contest.
The Board approved the agreement to transfer the Babe Ruth and American Legion programs to Bismarck Youth Baseball after completion of the 2023 baseball season.
The Board rejected the bid for the Sertoma Park water improvement projects due to the higher than budgeted cost and authorized staff to continue to work with the consultant on potential solutions to complete the projects.
The Board accepted the bid from Twin City Roofing LLC for the reroofing of the Joann Hetzel Memorial 4-H Building in the amount of $232,800 to be completed by July 15, 2024.
The Board approved the Capital Ice Complex concessions agreement with Bismarck Hockey Boosters.
Dakota Junior Golf Association (DJGA) committed to providing $400,000 for the relocation of the Sheila Schafer Junior Links to Pebble Creek Golf Course. The Board accepted the increased commitment from DJGA, suspended the previously approved capital campaign, and authorized staff to work with DJGA on an advertising agreement.

- Sleepy Hollow Theatre & Arts Park
The Board approved agreements with Bismarck Sports Group for ice and office use; authorized application for a ND Parks and Recreation Department – Park System Grant for artificial turf at the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark and selection of a project consultant if approved for the grant; and authorized a request for proposals for auditing services.
The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
