Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for March 16, 2023


Bill Sorenson shared information about Sleepy Hollow Theatre & Arts Park as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. Their 2023 season includes productions of Willy Wonka Jr. and Matilda.

BPRD Facility Specialist Katrina Hanenberg shared information about the park district’s tennis programs, including lessons for youth and adults, leagues, tournaments and special events.

The Board heard a presentation about the Bismarck Riverfront Idea, which includes concepts for a festival grounds, amphitheater and boutique hotel along the Missouri River. The project sponsors are the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation and City of Bismarck.

The Board awarded the bid for the Walt Stack Umpires’ Headquarters at Cottonwood Park Softball Complex to Northwest Contracting Inc. for $163,200.

The Board awarded the bid for the playground at the Joann Hetzel Memorial 4-H Building to Northwest Contracting Inc. for $165,325.75.

The Board awarded the base and alternate #1 bid for the playground at Sam McQuade Sr. Softball Complex to Northwest Contracting Inc. for $203,788.30.

The Board awarded the bid for the playground at Sertoma Park Shelter #5 to My Turn Playsystems for $54,965.

The Board awarded the bid for improvements to Marian Park to Northwest Contracting Inc. for $127,200.

The Board rejected the bid for the Hay Creek retaining wall as part of the N.D. Department of Transportation project and authorized staff to work with consultants for alternates to complete the project.

The Board approved the addition of First Western Bank and Trust as a designated depository for the park district.

The Board approved a punch card for facility use as a part-time employee benefit; approved selection of KLJ Engineering LLC as the professional consultant for the Sheila Schafer Junior Links relocation and authorized the call for bids; authorized the consultant selection process and call for bids for the General Sibley drain field replacement project; and authorized disposal of surplus equipment through the City of Bismarck auction.

The Board entered Executive Session to discuss contract negotiation strategy for the sale of Hay Creek lots.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
