Bismarck Board of Park Commissioners Brief for Nov. 17, 2022


Will Hutchings and Molly McLain shared information about Dakota West Arts Council as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner. She highlighted summer Arts in the Parks activities, including Kids Summer Stage, Songs at Sibley and Visual Arts in the Park. Attendance at 2022 events was 2,325. She expressed appreciation to BPRD for supporting these free art activities.

The Board approved the base bid for the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center lighting upgrade project to Rafter Electric LLC for $60,500.

The Board approved the base bid and two alternates for the Municipal Country Club renovation project to Roers Construction for $213,880.

The Board approved the Initial Resolution for General Obligation Park Facilities Bonds for the VFW Sports Center Expansion and Improvement Project.

The Board authorized staff to issue a request for proposals for recreation management software.

The Board appointed Evenson Sanderson as legal counsel for the park district.

The Board approved the 2023 Matching Grant application; authorized staff to call for bids for maintenance equipment, golf carts, and park shop chemical and paint storage; and authorized consultant agreements and calls for bids for the Joann Hetzel Memorial 4-H Building roof replacement, Cottonwood Park Umpires’ Headquarters, Hay Creek Park, Sam McQuade Sr. Softball Complex playground replacement, and Sertoma Park water line.

The Board accepted the resignation of Commissioner Monson effective Dec. 31, 2022, and approved an application process to fill the vacant seat by the Jan. 19, 2023, meeting.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room.
