Jeff Steele shared information about the Aquastorm Swim and Dive Club as a Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) featured partner.  The club has grown from 40 swimmers when it started in 2009 to 400 today and has won 20 consecutive state championships since 2011. Thirty-five club members have competed in college swim programs, and a club member competed in last year’s Olympic trials. Aquastorm also has 30 participants in a Masters program for those age 18 and older, along with a diving program.

BPRD Recreation Specialist Spencer Aune updated the Board on plans for the annual Flurry Fest festival in February. The goal for the event is to provide a diverse mix of free and low-cost events and program for residents to try new activities and be active during the winter. The calendar of activities is posted on the BPRD website.

The Board accepted the base bid, alternate 1 and alternate 2 for a total of $1,026,729.05 for North Central Park Improvements from Northwest Contracting Inc. The Board awarded the bid for two double vault toilets at General Sibley Park to Boom Concrete for $60,330.50. The Board awarded the bid for golf cars to NB Golf Cars for $182,561.44 and the bid for an irrigation central control system to Ferguson Waterworks for $68,391.67. The Board awarded the printing and mailing bid for the 2022 Activity Guide to Image Printing Inc. for $59,268.75.

 

The Board approved the following financial institutions as depositories for BPRD funds: Choice Financial, First International Bank and Trust, Gate City Bank, Starion Bank, US Bank and Wells Fargo Bank.

The Board authorized BPRD applications for the park district facility renovation grant from the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department and a boat dock grant from the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. The Board authorized a call for bids for an ice resurfacer. The Board approved a memorandum of understanding between Bismarck Public Schools District No. 1 and BPRD for the VFW Sports Center project.

The Board approved selection of consultants as follows: Apex Engineer for Sertoma Park sanitary sewer connection and KLJ for the Hay Creek Trail project and the comprehensive plan for the Clairmont Family Conservation Park.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at 5:15 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room. The Board will hold a strategic planning session on Monday, Feb. 28, at 4 p.m. at the BPRD administrative office.
